Artsy Shelf – 33 – White Dresses

It’s no secret by now that I love dresses, and while now a book with shoes on the cover will barely get my attention, a beautiful dress will always do the trick.

This week, I picked a few recent YA covers with girls in white dresses. I love seeing white dresses out of the wedding day context! I hadn’t realized, until I put them all together, how similar the tones are, too, among those picks.

I love the energy, the movement, the abandonment on the first two. I prefer Dragonswood‘s cover to A Beautiful Dark though, since we get a complete view of the girl and her springing out of water gives it another dimension.

For me though, books 3 and 4 are definitely the winners. The Splendors Fall is a bit dark and creepy without even a trace of dark color. As for So Silver Bright, I’m just a fan of the illustrator, and the covers in this series are all really pretty.

Do these covers work for you, or do they miss the mark? Which one is your favorite?

I love these covers, and it’s really hard to choose a favorite! I think my favorite would have to be a tie between the first two. Very observant for you to have noticed all these white dress covers!

at least The Goddess Test has some color behind the white! the rest keep with the muted greyishness. interesting.
