Cat Update!

Hi everyone!

The last weekend seemed to be the slowest weekend I’ve had in a long time, as I sat home and waited day after day for the veterinarian to call me and tell me how Murmur was doing. Fortunately, the surgery went well and he is now home, still a little tired but mostly back to his old self.

The experience was, of course, traumatic for him. Seeing him with his IV (as in picture) and urine catheter was particularly painful for me, because I could see how unhappy he was. He was constantly trying to pull them off, growling at us when we tried to stop him. Also, every time we went to visit him, they gave him a bath first, which of course he absolutely loved!

But now that he is home, I’m trying to nurse him back to health. He doesn’t eat or drink a lot, but at least he does a little. Two funny things about his state : to put the IV in his leg, they had to shave a part of his fur. Because his fur is so black and his skin is so white, every time he enters the room I have the illusion that I’m seeing his bone. Eek! So these days I’m calling him skeleton cat.

Also, when we give him his drugs at night (which he also loves as you can imagine…), they knock him out so quickly, he falls asleep in the funniest positions. And not only that, but his sleep is also really deep! He’s usually very quick to wake up if he hears an unusual noise, but with the drugs, we can push him (nicely of course) and move him and he doesn’t even wake up. It’s funny when he’s on a chair, but a little less when he falls asleep in the middle of the corridor! 😛

But the important thing is, he’s home and alive! This was such a stressful weekend but I’m glad we got to save him. I can’t imagine what it would have been if I had lost him. And I want to thank you all again, who commented here or emailed me. I was really touched by all of your words and stories, they really encouraged me. I love you all! 😀

I don’t think I was ever able to comment on this because I was in NYC and didn’t have a computer, but I was so happy to hear everything went well. Most of my posts I just glanced over and marked as read, but I actually read through these. I felt so much for you. I’m so glad your kitty is home safe and almost back to normal.

Kay, so glad to hear Murmur is doing well! I didn’t get to comment before, but as a pet lover I understand how hard it can be when scary health things happen with them. Just glad to hear he’s recovering well and is back for some quality snuggle time!

I’m so glad the kitty is okay! My own kitty just had to have 7 teeth pulled (including a canine) and I’m sad that he’s so down in the dumps. Man, these pets cost a lot of money, but who can not take care of them?!? So glad to see yours on his way, and LOVE the drugged out sleeping positions you’ve posted!
