Book Meme : Reader’s habits!
Oh! A book meme on reader’s habits! This look like a perfect way to introduce myself a little more! I’ll try to keep my answers short so you don’t spend the whole day here (and see if you can notice a tendancy? 😉 )
Hardback, trade paperback or mass market paperback? Trade paperback, for practical reasons; they’re lighter to carry around and more comfortable to hold than hardcovers, but a little better quality than mass market ones.
Barnes & Noble or Borders? Easy one: we have neither one of those here, so I shop at Chapters and Indigo.
Bookmark or dog-ear? Bookmark! I only dog-ear in necessity, if I lost my bookmark and have no receipt or some paper I can put in. Or if I want to remember a line but don’t want to write in the book.
Amazon or brick-and-mortar? A little of both, but recently a lot of Amazon. I get free shipping for 39$, so I wait until the Man and I have enough to order. Then it arrives in 2 days, yippee!
Alphabetize by author, or alphabetize by title, or random? Oooh my. My OCD plays a big role in my classification, I could write a whole post on that. But I don’t alphbetize (not now, anyway.) Basically, I classify by publishers for my french books, and by series, genre and size for the english ones. Fun, fun, fun!
Keep, throw away, or sell? Keep! I sell sometimes, but most of all I’m a book keeper.
Keep dust jacket or toss it? Keep.
Read with dust jacket or remove it? Depends of the size of the book and of the cover, but I often remove it.
Short story or novel? Novel, definitely. I like short stories sometimes, though.
Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket? Harryyyyy! *insert fanatic screeching here* (I’ve never read Lemony, so it’s an easy one)
Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks? I try to stop at chapter breaks, but sometimes, you just can’t fight the sleepiness.
“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time”? “Once upon a time, on a dark and stormy night”. Fairy tales with a twist!
Buy or borrow? Buy! Wallet insists that I borrow more, though, but I don’t like it. *pouts*
Buying choice: book reviews, recommendations, or browse? All of the above!
Tidy ending or cliffhanger? Tidy for a stand alone; cliffhanger okay for a series.
Morning reading, afternoon reading, or nighttime reading? All-the-time reading! I read the most when I go to bed, of on the bus and in the subways when I go to class.
Stand-alone or series? Oh, hard one! I’d say series. When I find a writer I love and a character that’s well developed, I love having their company for more than a few pages.
Favorite series? Harryyyyy! *insert fanatic screeching here*
Favorite children’s book? The wizard of Oz. I never tire of this story.
Favorite YA book? Harryyyyy! *insert fanatic screeching here*
Favorite book of which nobody else has heard? Hmm, right now the first thing that comes to mind is The Virgin’s Tale, by Sherri Smith. It’s recent and I haven’t met a lot of people having read it yet.
Favorite books read last year? “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens; “After Dark” by Haruki Murakami; “Atonement” by Ian McEwan.
Favorite books of all time? Harryyyyy! *insert fanatic screeching here*
What are you reading right now? Look on my sidebar! 🙂
What are you reading next? Good question… I’m hesitating between “The heretic’s daughter” and “Gargoyle” and “Girls of Riyahd”
Favorite book to recommend to an 11-year-old? If it hasn’t been read yet, “The Wizard of Oz” or “Alice” from Lewiss Caroll.
Favorite book to re-read? Harryyyyy! *insert fanatic screeching here*
Do you ever smell books? Oh my God, YES! All my family and friends make fun of me because of it, and when the Man of the House buy books, he always offers me a “sniff”. I wish they made a “new book” perfume.
Do you ever read primary source documents like letters or diaries? Yes, mostly for school though.
I’m glad I answered this; it was a good occasion to make my coming-out of the Harry closet!
